Rome City is currently a “caucus town,” which means that when local offices become vacant — including positions on the Town Council — they are filled not by a vote of the people, but by just a few political insiders known as Precinct Committee Members. These selections happen behind closed doors, without public input, and often without transparency.
We believe you should choose your leaders at the ballot box — not behind the scenes.
By changing Rome City’s status from a convention (caucus) town to a primary town, we will give every resident the right to vote for their local council members in public elections — just like we already do for mayoral or state offices.
This petition calls on Rome City leadership and Noble County election officials to support this change. If you believe your vote should matter in choosing who governs your town, sign and share this petition today.

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Rome City, Indiana, believe in the principles of representative democracy and transparent government.
Currently, Rome City operates as a convention town, meaning local elected officials — including Town Council members — may be chosen by internal party caucuses rather than through public elections. This process excludes the vast majority of citizens from selecting their own leaders.
We respectfully demand that Rome City take the necessary legal and procedural steps to transition to a primary town, where council members and other local officials are elected directly by the voters in regularly scheduled municipal elections.
